Enable Closed Captions on a Windows 10 or 11 PC

 

To turn on closed captioning (Live Captions) on Windows 11, follow these steps:

Open Settings:

Press Windows + I to open the Settings app.

​

Navigate to Accessibility:

In the Settings app, go to Accessibility on the left sidebar.

 

Select Captions:

Under Accessibility, click on Captions.

Turn on Live Captions:  Toggle the switch to turn on Live Captions.

​

Alternatively, you can use a quick shortcut:

Press Windows + Ctrl + L to open the Live Captions window directly.

​

Click the Settings icon (Gear) to change the location of the Live Caption window

​

On some PC's, the Windows key is labeled Start.

Enable Closed Captions on an Apple Device

​

Click System Preferences from the Dock.

 

Click on Accessibility.

 

Scroll down and click on Captions

 

Choose any of the four available subtitle styles.

Make sure you’ve checked the box for Prefer closed captions and SDH.

Enable Closed Captions on an Android Device

​

Open your device's Settings app.

​

Select Accessibility.

​

Look for the option labeled live captions, closed captions, or anything along those lines.

​

Toggle the On/Off switch to your preference.

​

Enable Closed Captions using the YouTube Player

​

You can turn on captions while playing a video on YouTube by tapping the CC icon in the YouTube player. Sometimes, it will take several days after a video is published before the CC icon is enabled in the YouTube player.
